Syntonic Systems Inc. is a technology firm as well as the administrator of a number of large union-run healtcare plans.
Openflows was approached to web enable Syntonic's data transfer system in a manner that complies with the HIPAA standards (health insurance portability and accountability act).
Syntonic had written an application / HIPAA compliant system to take data on a doctor's machine and write it into the proper, HIPAA-compliant format. As well, they programmed a system that reads that data and processes it, looks into databases and gets a result file (such as validating claim, processing info on treatment).
Syntonic needed someone to do the part in between; to get the data securely and smoothly between the provider and the administrator and provide a way of providing access to the internet without jepordizing the privacy of the health care information stored on the system.
That is where Openflows came in.
Openflows built an opensource module to "web-enable" their microsoft based system.
By implimenting this part of the project with free/opensource software we were able to give them a system that can be replicated for their various clients easily and affordably; as well as a system that is secure and stable.
